TODAY'S clash between Charlton Athletic and Coventry City ground to a halt when fans hurled 3,000 plastic pigs at the players.

Fans began chucking the plastic toys within the first minute, causing the League One clash to be stopped.

There were embarrassing scenes as players sheepishly picked up the 3,000 plastic toys as the crowds jeered.

In a bizarre show of unity, both sets of fans and applauded from the stands – both protesting against their club's owners.

Charlton supporters have long criticised Roland Duchâtelet, while Coventry fans are angered by Sisu.

Fans with banners stating "we want our Charlton back" were seen in the grounds just before the match.

They have previously staged a mock funeral and thrown balloons and beach balls onto the pitch.

Coventry City fans were angered after a proposed fan-led takeover was blocked by London hedge fund Sisu this week.

Several took to Twitter to share pictures and videos of the pigs lay scattered across the pitch.

It's not the first time animals have invaded during a match.

A single moth made headlines after it appeared to comfort Ronaldo during the Portugal V France clash during this year's Euro Championships.
