After death threats were directed towards Real Madrid and Colombia midfielder James Rodriguez via social media, the player's mother Pilar Rubio has spoken out against those responsible.
The horrified parent screenshotted some of the sick tweets directed towards her son, sharing them with her own Twitter following.
"What is wrong with people, are they crazy?" she said.
"They are messaging me directly to say it is better to see him dead."
In one of the threats, a photo of a box containing a gun and ammunition appears, along with a message saying "Legion Holk is watching you".
"I am travelling to your house and I come armed, so say goodbye to everything you love," the Twitter user added. "I can picture many people crying tomorrow because I killed a mediocre player."
Despite the sinister nature of the messages, El Colombiano newspaper reported that the Colombian police have questioned the veracity of the threats.
