Loris Karius has successfully undergone surgery on his right hand as the Liverpool goalkeeper targets a swift return to first-team action.
The Germany Under-21 international suffered a broken hand during Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat by bitter Premier League rivals Chelsea in the International Champions Cup in the United States.
Karius moved to the 18-time English champions in a £4.7m deal from Bundesliga outfit Mainz at the start of the summer as manager Jurgen Klopp looked to strengthen his goalkeeping options.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper was handed the number one shirt following his arrival as Klopp appeared to drop a hint that Karius was signed to become his first-choice shot stopper.
However, the former Manchester City youth player is still waiting to make his Premier League debut for the Merseyside outfit following his summer move.
But Karius appears to be closing in on his Liverpool debut after the German had wires removed from his right hand on Wednesday afternoon after training with the first-team last week.
Karius posted the above photo and wrote on his Instagram page:
"Recovering from a successful surgery 👍🏼 All wires are removed, from now on things can only move upwards!☝🏼️ #BackSoon #NextStep #LK1 @liverpoolfc"
