Spain’s Iker Casillas and Vicente Del Bosque kiss and make up

Spain’s Euro 2016 was punctuated by tension and controversy.

Before a ball had even been kicked in anger, the story broke that David De Gea had been named in a sex scandal dating from 2012, and the Man United keeper was almost sent home because of it.

Then there was Pedro’s moaning that he didn’t want to be a sub, and that if he wasn’t going to start, he’d be better off at home.

And in the wake of their elimination at the hands of Italy, Del Bosque revealed that he’d fallen out with Iker Casillas.

Del Bosque revealed on Cadena Ser that Casillas was the only player he didn’t write a ‘thank you’ message to, due to the latter’s impudent attitude when told that David De Gea was to be the keeper for Spain’s Euro 2016 campaign.

Thankfully, for the good of Spanish football, Del Bosque and Casillas have kissed and made up, so to speak.

Porto keeper Casillas tweeted a picture of himself and the mustachioed manager this morning, and the beaming smiles on their faces bespoke the repaired damage.

They won’t be working together anymore, as Del Bosque has decided to walk away when his contract is up at the end of the month, but it was important for their legacy that they patched things up.

They did win a World Cup and Euros together after all; it would be a shame to throw those memories away over nothing.
