Cristiano Ronaldo embraces Chinese Twitter

Cristiano Ronaldo has expanded his social media presence by creating an account on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent to Twitter.

The Portuguese needed only a few hours to reach more than hundred thousand followers on the Chinese social network.

"Hello everyone! It's amazing to find support from all over the world. With this account I hope to be closer to all of you who support me in China. Hope that you enjoy and follow me around here. NI HAO, CHINA!" read his first message. ??

The Real Madrid star is surely the undisputed king of social media in the sports world. Last February he became the first athlete to reach over 200 million followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram combined.

Today, he has 111 million followers on Facebook, 59 million on Instagram and 42 million on Twitter.Ronaldo's arrival to Sina Webio is a further step in the globalisation of the player's image and coincides with him reaching an agreement with Chinese phone company Nubia.
