The ex-Liverpool skipper wanted to "salute" everyone and pay his respects in the game.

He asked the referee if he could wear the armband ahead of LA Galaxy's 4-1 win over Houston Dynamo.

"It was a very emotional night for me with the Hillsborough memorial back home," Gerrard said in a post-match interview.
