Former West Ham defender jailed for three years after glassing bouncer

Former West Ham defender Izzy Iriekpen has been sentenced to three years and three months in prison.

The 33-year-old left martial arts expert Simon Williams needing emergency surgery to repair two severed arteries in his neck after a scuffle outside a pub in Notting Hill in July 2014.

Williams required 61 stitches from his temple to his shoulder after the attack.

Iriekpen claimed he forgot he was holding a glass before lashing out 'in self defence', but the Old Bailey said he lost his temper because he felt 'disrespected' by the pub bouncer.

Iriekpen played for the Hammers between 1998 and 2003 and captained a side including Joe Cole and Michael Carrick to FA Youth Cup success in 1999.

Prosecutors convicted Iriekpen of 'unlawfully wounding' Mr Williams.
