Judge sums up in Adam Johnson trial

The judge in the trial of Adam Johnson has begun summing up the case.

Johnson is on trial at Bradford Crown Court accused of two counts of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

The 28-year-old former Sunderland winger has pleaded guilty to charges of grooming and sexual activity with a child, but denies two more serious charges.

Judge Jonathan Rose told the jury of eight women and four men: "In February last year, a 15-year-old girl told police that she had met and had intimate relations with the defendant, a professional footballer with Sunderland Football Club."

The judge said he expected to conclude his summing up on Tuesday morning and said the jury would then retire to consider their verdicts.

The trial was adjourned until Tuesday.
