Shakira was a member of Espanyol's 'marvellous minority'

Gerard Pique ironically referred to the slogan that Espanyol used last season in a campaign to increase their member numbers, turning it back on the 'Periquitos' fans after what was a rough cup derby game: "They call themselves the 'marvellous minority', and they're in such a minority that they can't even fill their ground. Let's see whether they manage to fill it for the return leg, because the other day it wasn't full".

The Espanyol supporters didn't take long to reply to his controversial comments though, as they used social media to remind the 'Blaugranas' defender that his wife, Shakira, was once an Espanyol member.

It all happened on 10th December 2002. MARCA joined Shakira and Raul Tamudo, on a visit the Colombian songstress made to Barcelona, when the captain of the 'Blanquiazules' took the opportunity to give her a club shirt and the club made her a member.

Espanyol posted the following on their website at the time: "On her trip to Barcelona, Shakira became a member of our club, with membership number 27,506. She spoke with our captain for over an hour, and he gave her our club card and shirt, as well as other gifts".
