ON FIRE: Vardy has scored 12 goals so far this season

The Leicester City hitman takes home a chippy tea after every game.

And it seems to be working as the 28-year-old has battered in 12 goals so far this season.

Vardy claimed his ninth league goal in as many matches during yesterday 2-1 win over Watford and can equal Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in ten consecutive Premier League games if he scores next time out.

PRIZE CATCH: Vardy could be a hit in next years Euros

The Foxes ace developed his fondness for a fish supper during a season at the then non-league Fleetwood Town.

He began taking two pieces of fish home with him after matches in the Lancashire port town.

The unconventional diet helped Vardy to hammer home 31 goals for the club in the 2011-12 season.

Fleetwood went on to win the Conference Premier title and he was named the club’s player of the year.

Not wanting to rock the boat, Vardy has carried on the teatime tradition at high-flying Leicester to amazing effect.

A friend said: “He regards his fish supper as a major factor in his success.

"While he was in Fleetwood he used to rave about the local fish suppers.

"If we were playing away, no matter how far that was, he would go to the chippy as soon as the bus got us back and then he’d head home.

FAMILY MAN: Vardy threw a kids' Halloween party last week

"It’s not so strange because a lot of players say they have rituals and superstitions before and after games.

"We always said Jamie was fired up during games by the thought of his fi sh afterwards.

"He’s a top bloke who didn’t start in league football until he was 25 and has done incredibly well.

"When you think about it, Fleetwood and its fantastic fish has possibly helped make him the player he is now.”

Sheffield-born Vardy celebrated last weekend’s victory by going home, dressing up and throwing a Halloween kids’ party.

But his friend said: “Whether he took his battered fish home that evening, I honestly don’t know.”

His scoring spree could well make him a prize catch for England at next year’s Euro 2016 tournament in France.
