John Terry's final England cap
John Terry took to social media on Monday to thank England’s fans for their support during his spell captaining the national side.
The 34-year-old Chelsea centre-half made his England debut in June 2003 against Serbia and Montenegro and went on to earn 78 Three Lions caps.
Terry was twice stripped of the England captaincy after being handed the armband by manager Fabio Capello back in 2008.
The defender announced in September 2012 that he had chosen to retire from international football after netting six goals for his country.
Now, Terry has revealed that he has been sent the cap from his final England appearance – which came against Moldova back in 2012 – and paid tribute to the fans of the national team for their support.
Terry uploaded the picture above onto his Instagram account and wrote: “My last ever England Cap arrived at the training ground this week. Moldova Vs England.
“So proud to have represented and Captained my country. Never had the chance before but I would like to thank all the fans for your support. #dreamscancometrue”
The Chelsea captain helped Jose Mourinho’s men win their fourth Premier League title this season, netting five goals for the Blues.
