Memphis Depay: Man Utd transfer won’t change me

Memphis Depay insists that he is still the same person despite his high-profile transfer to Manchester United this summer.

The Netherlands winger became the Red Devils’ first signing of the summer earlier this month as Louis van Gaal moved quickly to begin United’s summer recruitment drive, snapping up the 21-year-old from PSV Eindhoven.

Depay has passed a medical with the Premier League club, with his move set to officially go through when the transfer window opens next month.

However, despite his big-money move to the Old Trafford club, Depay insists that his values remain the same as he looks to make an impact in the Premier League next season.

Depay told De Telegraaf: “I’m still the same Memphis. The older you get and the more experience you get, the higher your level is.

''Every time I come to the Dutch team, I set the bar a little higher for myself.

''This is normal and not because I have made a nice transfer.”

Depay, who is Van Gaal’s first signing of the summer, was a key part of PSV’s title-winning side after the Dutch forward scored 22 goals and made eight assists in 28 Eredivisie appearances this season.

The 21-year-old, who underwent a medical with the Red Devils earlier this month ahead of his move in June, also played under Van Gaal at last year’s World Cup in Brazil.
