The Argentine defender moved to Old Trafford last summer for £16m – but back in South America his relatives are being ruthlessly targeted by criminals.

His dad has been beaten while his mum has had a gun put to her head in the city of La Plata, 40 miles from Buenos Aires.

Rojo's brother and sister, Franco and Noelia, have revealed the terror the family are living in because of his £200,000-a-week salary.

"We are always scared," they told The Sun. "They target us because of Marcos.

"They know the house, everyone knows. We have to take every precaution and we don't answer the door to anyone.

"We had to put bars on all our windows – the front, the back and the door upstairs.

"It's dangerous being Marcos Rojo's family. But we won't leave because this is our home."

Rojo joined United after a successful World Cup. He helped Argentina reach the final where they were beaten by Germany.

The defender, 24, has been left disgusted by the attacks on his family back in his homeland.

He has demanded police catch those responsible and took to Twitter to slam the thugs.

"They hit my dad, pointed guns at my mum, my sister and my godson of one year," he said.

"I want to see what s*** they do now. I am sick of it."

Meanwhile Rojo is backing his teammates to chase down Premier League leaders Chelsea.

He said: "I thought Chelsea were far ahead of us in the table, but everyone at United says we can catch them.

"We will not give up hope. We'll first aim to overtake Manchester City, and it is a good challenge for us.

"We have even better chances of winning the FA Cup.

"I am in good shape, and I'm happy with the way our results are going."
