Juan Mata wishes his new Manchester United team-mate Victor Valdes a happy 33rd birthday

Juan Mata took to social media on Wednesday evening to wish his new team-mate Victor Valdes a happy birthday.

The Spanish goalkeeper turned 33 this week just days after joining Manchester United on an 18-month deal after a training stint with the Red Devils.

And Mata took to his Instagram account to wish his compatriot all the best, posting the picture above and writing: "Happy birthday my friend! Hope u had a great day. @vicvaldes1."

Mata, 26, has enjoyed a relatively fruitful season during Louis van Gaal's first term in charge at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard, who joined United from Chelsea last January, has scored five goals and made three assists in 18 Premier League games for the Red Devils.

United's next game is a trip down to London to face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon, where they will look to return to winning ways following their surprise 1-0 defeat by Southampton in their last outing at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are fourth in the Premier League table, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea.
