De Gea, Spain's future and Real's

David de Gea is seen by many as the great Spanish promise capable of taking over from the already legendary Iker Casillas, destined to be Spain's next starting keeper. And maybe Real Madrid's. The name of the ex-Atlético de Madrid shot-stopper has been on the tables of the Bernabéu offices for some time now, and it is said that De Gea likes the idea.

Before De Gea can make the leap from United to Real, however, first Casillas must leave. The veteran keeper has a contract with his club until 2017 plus an extra year depending on how the games pan out. A long time to wait.

David de Gea is not worried about his future. He's happy and at home in Manchester, where he is currently playing out his fourth season at just 23 years of age (24 in November). A possible move to 'Los Blancos' might just be why as yet he hasn't renewed his present contract, which runs out in 2016.

For now, no agreement has been reached between Manchester United and his agent, Jorge Mendes. The player is looking for a higher fixed sum, with less of his salary depending on how many matches he plays. It may be that the shot-stopper ends up putting pen to paper and renewing with the English club, but his agent promised the youngster some time ago that one day he would find him a place with Real Madrid. A possible way to reel him in next summer may be a move similar to that undertaken to net Kroos – providing of course that De Gea doesn't renew.
