Xabi Alonso operation goes well

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has undergone an operation in Murcia on the fractured fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot, which occurred during Wednesday's training session at Valdebebas. He will be out for another three months.

Doctors Mariano de Prado and Pedro Luis Ripoll, orthopaedic specialists, carried out the operation at Murcia's Quirón Hospital, where Alonso arrived after flying in to San Javier airport on a private plane.

The injury woes continue for the 31-year-old Basque player – he had to undergo groin surgery at the end of last season after sustaining an injury in June during the Confederations Cup with Spain.

The Tolosa-born player was operated on by Doctor Ulrike Muschaweck, a specialist in groin injuries, on 7th June in Munich, Germany.

This is not the first time that Alonso has gone under the knife of the Murcian doctors. They previously performed an operation on him when he suffered a similar injury in 2001 during his time at Real Sociedad. He then continued treatment with them whilst at Liverpool and now at Real Madrid.
