British divers Jack Laugher and Chris Mears talked to SNTV on Wednesday (17th August) about their medal successes in Rio.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jack Laugher, synchronized diving gold medallist / 3m springboard silver medallist:

"I'm ecstatic really. I mean, for me I didn't really get a chance to actually soak up and understand what we had done in 'synchro' (synchronized) to get a gold medal. I never really had that time to reflect because I had to get straight back in the pool you know, get back on that horse and start again individually. But then to come out with a silver medal as well individually last night, it really gave me time to actually reflect on what we had achieved as a team, as British diving and individually in myself as well. For me, and for Chris (Laugher) I know, we've just done the job of a lifetime here. This is it, this is the big one and we did it... and we couldn't be happier."

"Yeah, of course, you know it's always been on our cards - at the Europeans (European Championship) we got gold in 'synchro', and I got silver individually as well, and for the past year or two we have been really showing that we do mean business. In the World Championships last year I got two bronzes, we got a bronze in 'synchro'. You know, we've been working up each time, we have been adding harder dives to our list, and stuff like that, and we've been really showing everyone that we do mean business - and to come here, and to do it on the big stage as well, for us it is a dream come true. It is all done now, all the pressure is off, it's time for us to go and relax and enjoy ourselves, and see our families and stuff, and spend our time with our Olympics and just have a brilliant time."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Mears, synchronized diving gold medallist:

"Yeah, it feels like a lifetime ago now since I was up there competing. But yeah, I have had a long time to kind of think about what happened on that night, and to be honest I've still a little bit in the bubble because Jack's still been competing, and obviously I have not been going out partying, I have been kind of a supporting him and, you know, not going to bed late or anything like that. But yeah, it was just phenomenal, the whole atmosphere around that night when we competed and we won, and also last night the whole atmosphere in the pool that I could tell when I walked into the pool it was going to be a good one. I had that feeling. And I had that feeling in our event as well. So I think the stars just kind of aligned for us (at) this games, and also I think diving has just been really successful here and it's all just kind of aligned for all the divers I think."

(about the Rio 2016 diving pool being green.)

"No, I mean that was...you know, if it makes us win gold then bring on the green pool. It wasn't a distraction at all, it was just something that happened on the day, and actually two days before we noticed it was starting to get a little bit green - so it wasn't exactly a massively new thing. I think it did kind of shock some people but at the end of the day, those people that can kind of adapt to the changes of the situation, or whatever, on the day of the competition, will come out on top... and that's what we did."
