Great Britain is literally overruling the rowing discipline as another two medals were achieved on Saturday, 13 August, by the men's eight team that won the gold medal and by the women's eight team that won the silver medal.
SOUNDBITE (English) Jessica Eddie, rower of the women's eight GB team:
"To get together today with the nine of us and actually put a great race together is just how this WORLD and I think is just a combination of so much hard work and as rowers we train so hard and train all day long just know we got this one race in the back of our minds and this morning I just kind of blanked that out and just pretend it was a normal race going from the start line to the finish line as fast as you possibly could, I think we put that together, we went out and try go for the gold medal but unfortunately, I think seconds away from winning that, over six minutes race is not very much, but we have to be very happy with this."
SOUNDBITE (English) Melanie Wilson, rower of the women's eight GB team:
"I think, I don't think that many of us in the crew were that aware but we were quite slow at the start and so we were actually in last position coming through the halfway point of the race, and I was vaguely aware that was the case, but our cox who calls the race and tells us what to do was being very calm about it and I think she felt confident that we could move on in the second half of the race, so she just called it really brilliantly to be honest and yeah, when we started to move through it was an incredible feeling but scary at some points, I guess."
SOUNDBITE (English) MBE Andrew T. Hodge, rower of the men's eight GB team:
"To be able to come home with a medal, with a gold medal is a phenomenal, a phenomenal achievement, personally, I think, as a crew we've come together for this event, like haven't done the whole year, so we are peaking right here for this event and we are privileged to be in such a wonderful setting, Rio is a vibrant, electric city and is how it felt on the water, we sold our souls out there, we gave everything and the gold medal it means a lot."
SOUNDBITE (English) Tom Ransley, rower of the men's eight GB team :
"What really, kind of, makes it so special is all the support network that we've had, all friends and family and then like, seeing them, like just love it, loved the fact that it's all come right on the day and it's all come to fruition, right here in an awesome place they've really hosted it really well."
SOUNDBITE (English) MBE Andrew T. Hodge, rower of the men's eight GB team:
"So when we crossed the line, it was the whole team, eleven, eight athletes, one cox, two coaches, which produced that event, it wasn't just one person doing it for everybody else and I think that really sorted out the best out of all of us and produced that team result."
