Saturday, May 14 2016 by SNTV
  • Fran Halsall said on Friday (13th May) that it would be hard to finish her career without an Olympic medal but she is hoping for third time lucky in Rio

SOUNDBITE: (English) Fran Halsall (Q: How much would it mean to you to win an Olympic medal?)

"You know that's what every athlete dreams of, I've done two Olympic Games now and come up short of medals in both of them so third time, third opportunity to do it and I've learned a lot from those two experiences and then you kind of know what it's like to be in that environment and race in that environment and to see other people standing on the podium. It would be the icing on the cake for my career to sneak an Olympic medal would be fantastic."

Q: Do you think your career, for you personally, do you think it would almost be incomplete achieve a medal at the Olympics?

"It's a hard because I think that when I stop swimming and look at it as someone who is not in the sport and looking in, I've had quite a successful career and winning five medals at a European Championships and winning World medals is quite an achievement. But as a little girl it's always been my dream to win an Olympic medal. it's once every four years, it's the epitome of our sport, it's kind of what eveything is determined on, so in that sense it would hard to leave it without one. But if I have done everything I can and I come up short, it's just the fact that I wasn't good enough on the day."
