SuggestedLeadIn: Reaction after the Toronto Blue Jays topped the Kansas City Royals 11-8 on Monday (19th October), to narrow their deficit in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series to 2-1.
Script: SOUNDBITE (English) John Gibbons, Toronto Blue Jays Manager:
(On breakout game for Blue Jays offense)
"Yeah, we desperately needed that, a break out. And you look at how the game finished up, those runs really came in handy. But it wasn't an easy game, even though we had a big lead. Stro (Marcus Stroman) really battled. I mean it was a grinding night for him. They battled him hard. He was kind of in and out a little bit with his command, but he got the job done. We made (Johnny) Cueto work pretty good, too. So, the home run ball, which is what we're known for, was a huge part of the game."
SOUNDBITE (English) Troy Tulowitzki, Toronto Blue Jays Shortstop:
(On his game)
"I think I got some pitches to hit, put good swings on it. It's a tough game, you're not going to be on top all the time but you try to find ways to help contribute. Sometimes when you're not swinging the bat people don't talk about defense, but you can win games defensively, too. And this team plays both sides of the ball and tonight was definitely a huge win for us."
SOUNDBITE (English) Ryan Goins, Toronto Blue Jays Second Baseman:
(On contributing to win after committing costly error in Game 2)
"Yeah, I mean anytime you can help the team win is going to be great. But put the game in Kansas City behind me, had the off day yesterday, came in and worked out. And today was probably the last thing in the back of my head, you don't even think about it. So just came in today with a clear mindset to do what I could to help this team win."
SOUNDBITE (English) Marcus Stroman, Toronto Blue Jays Pitcher:
(On win)
"It's pretty special, you know what I mean? We were down 2-0. We realised that. You couldn't tell we were down 2-0 in the clubhouse, unbelievably confident group that we have. And just to go out there and to see the bats be swung like they were and to see the defense play behind me, just looking to carry this momentum into the next couple of games."
