SuggestedLeadIn: British windsurfer Nick Dempsey spoke on Wednesday (19th August) about focussing on October's World Championships after a disappointing 13th place in the Olympic test event at Rio de Janeiro.

"It makes it twice as hard, trying to understand how the currents are moving, where the tide lines are, the best strategy for that particular race and half an hour later it's all different, it's all changed again. So I've a huge amount to learn still and we've got a lot of time here so we're going to make the most of that."

"Yeah, we've got 11 months until the Games now. Luckily, I've got the world championships in two months in Oman. Similar conditions to here so I'm going to really really focus on that, and it's going to be the best thing for me to get home from here and just go straight into it. We'll make it happen, we'll try and win the world championships off the back of a poor result here."

"Well, ultimately all the events in the run-in to the 2016 Games are all training for the main event but certainly this test event, like some of the world championships, of course are key events that we're really trying to perform at our best for. So we're trying to, if you like, dry run as many things as we can here that we would like to use in the Olympic Games and of course our sailors are trying to deliver the best performances, both to set down a marker in terms of the opposition but also so that they can build their own confidence that they're capable of coming back here in a year's time and really doing the business when it counts."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Stephen Park, GBR Olympic team manager (on team's goals for Rio 2016):

"I suppose for the Games itself in 2016, we're pretty keen to try and turn up with 10 Olympic events, and then for the Paralympics, of course, three Paralympic events where we think we're actually medal-competitive. We know that this venue is very tricky, we know that there's sometimes a degree of luck that plays into the results, and so it's important to ensure that we've got a good representation across all the classes because on any given day some of them are just not going to deliver for one reason or another. So if we want to come away with somewhere between three and five medals in the Olympics, and two or three medals in the Paralympics, then really we need to go into the event with realistic chances of medalling in every single one of those events."
