Superbug' found in Rio's Olympic waters.

A drug-resistant "super bacteria" normally found in hospitals has been discovered in the waters where Rio de Janeiro's Olympic sailing events will be held.

The bacteria is notoriously difficult to treat has been found in various spots along the Carioca River which flows into the city's Guanabara Bay, where the events will take place.

No instances of infection resulting from the contaminated water have been detected yet but The Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, warned of possible danger to swimmers.

Water quality has been a major worry ahead of the 2016 games and in their Olympic bid, organizers pledged to slash the amount of sewage and rubbish pumped into the bay by 80%.

Critics say this hasn't happened and now authorities recommended against swimming on any of its beaches.

Organisers of the Rio games declined to comment, saying they would have to look into the findings before responding.
