The British territory of Bermuda beat San Diego for the right to host the 2017 America's Cup, organisers announced on Tuesday (2nd December) in New York City.

"I know you're all waiting with bated breath, right. I'm pleased to announce that the next America's Cup will be held in June of 2017 in Bermuda."

"This is a remarkable moment for Bermuda and all of our people. We are absolutely delighted to be here today. And honoured that Bermuda was selected to host the 35th America's Cup in 2017. Being the home of the America's Cup is an extraordinary opportunity that aligns perfectly with our heritage, profile, spirit and future of the island."
SOUNDBITE (English) Sir Ben Ainslie, Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR), England:
"As a British team, we obviously have quite historic ties to Bermuda. So we're obviously delighted that you were able to host the America's Cup. As you say, I've had some great experiences racing there with the Bermuda Gold Cup - on and off the water. It's a great venue. So looking forward to a few years time."

"Bermuda is a fantastic venue. It's a fantastic sailing venue. It's an island with huge maritime history and I think there will be absolute engagement by all the Bermudan public to support the event. So I think we'll have a really amazing event there. Now that we now that we have the confirmation we're going to go back immediately and start to work very closely with our sponsors and the government to make sure that we are there."
