The course in Cozumel, Mexico, was a 750 metre swim with a pontoon start, followed by a 20 kilometre bike ride and a five kilometre run.
Frenchman Diemunsch ended a three year wait for an ITU World Cup title, his last coming back in 2011, as he sprinted for the line just seconds ahead of Americans Jarrod Shoemaker and Joe Maloy.
Diemunsch finished just four seconds ahead of Shoemaker, with third-placed Maloy a second further back.

It was Shoemaker's second World Cup podium finish of the season, while it was Maloy's first ever World Cup podium, his previous best was fifth in Tongyeong in 2013.
Next up on the calendar is the Cartagena ITU Triathlon World Cup, which takes place in Colombia on October 12th.
