    Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman suffered injuries above his left eye and nose when he was hit by a line drive during a Spring training game against the Kansas City Royals in Sunrise, Arizona on Wednesday night (19th March), the latest injury to a pitcher struck in the head by a batted ball.

    Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman suffered serious facial injuries during a major league baseball training game in Arizona on Wednesday.

    Chapaman was hit by a line drive and had to undergo surgery to repair a broken bone above his left eye.

    The exhibition match, between Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City was called off after an 8-minute delay with Kansas leading 6-3.

    According to the team doctor a metal plate will be inserted in the bone and will remain there permanently. Chapman has a very mild concussion but no injury to his eye

    It was Kansas City's Salvador Perez who lined Chapman's fastball into the pitcher's face, causing Chapman to collapsed onto the ground,

    Catcher Brayan Pena was with Chapman on Thursday morning and said that the pitcher was in good spirits.
