Postgame reaction after the Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland Athletics 3-0 in Game 5 to win the American League Division Series. Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander struck out ten in the victory and took a no-hitter into the 7th inning.

"You know sometimes a guy can really pitch well against certain teams and pitch five days later against somebody else and get knocked around it's really hard to figure out. But when this guy's (Verlander) it going he pitches good against everybody, for the most part, when you got that kind of fastball and hs used his fastball a lot tonight, when you got that kind of fastball he's got three well above average major league pitches and another one that's at least average and maybe a little bit better when you got four pitches that are above average, and a couple of them really above average, you can shut down a lot of teams."

"Oh yeah there were thoughts of a no-hitter but I kind of shoved those to the back of my mind I think you see too often guys have no-hitters late in games and all of a sudden give up a hit and the wheels kind of fall off a little bit you get a little erratic or give up a couple of runs after that. You see it all the time so, that being the case obviously I would have liked to thrown a no-hitter and it was back there in the back of my mind but you can't let that happen in this scenario this game's too big and there's so much other stuff going on that you can't let a hit late in the game change your mindset whatsoever so that was my focus I stepped off the mound for a second and just told myself 're-focus' you know just execute that was pretty much the word of the day for me, in my head, relax and execute."
