No chance of Liverpool title win with Klopp’s current defence – Henchoz

Stephane Henchoz believes his former club Liverpool have "no chance of competing" for the Premier League due to their defensive fragilities.

Jurgen Klopp's men have shipped in 12 goals after their opening seven league outings the second most across England's top division.

Henchoz, who enjoyed six seasons at Anfield, feels their inability to focus on the defensive side of the game means they cannot be considered among those favourite to be champions.

"It was a big problem last season and everybody was hoping they could solve the problem," he told the BBC.

"I think they definitely should buy somebody. At least one or two centre-backs, they tried [Virgil] Van Dijk, but they couldn't make it happen.

"I don't know. It seems that it is always the same mistakes, set pieces, they are very weak, very poor.

"The way it is at the moment, they have absolutely no chance of competing for the title.

"They would be more than happy to finish in the top four, but if they carry on the way they are conceding goals, I can't see them finishing in the top four unfortunately."

It's now 27 years since the Reds were last champions of England. And to say they've started the 2017/18 campaign on the wrong foot is an understatement.

Klopp's men have registered 12 points from an available 21 courtesy of winning three matches and drawing a further three.

Their only defeat was a humbling 5-0 loss away to championship favourites Manchester City.

Goalscoring hasn't been a problem, 13 across seven outings, but as mentioned their 12 conceded is only beaten by West Ham who have shipped in 13 goals.
