Luis Suarez Shares Story Of How He Reacted To Barcelona Wanting To Sign Him

Luis Suarez's 2014 had more twists than a fucking M. Night Shyamalan film and somehow, El Pistolero managed to end the year with a happy ending. But it almost fell as flat as The Happening (if you've not seen that film, don't. It'll fucking ruin Mark Wahlberg for you).

Anyway, unnecessary Hollywood inspired segues aside, 2014 was pretty fucked up for Luis Suarez.

First of all, the Uruguayan striker hit the form of his life and drove Liverpool towards their first league title in over a quarter of a century.

Then the title challenge fell flat thanks to a 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea and the infamous night of 'Crystanbul' at Selhurst Park that reduced Suarez to tears at the final whistle.

Suarez then dusted himself off to eliminate England from the World Cup just over a month later, only to then sink his teeth into Giorgio Chiellini like a hangover sufferer who's just spotted last night's kebab led next to them in bed.

The bite on the Italian defender's arm led to Suarez being banned from all football related activities for four months. The suspension couldn't have come at a worse time for the Uruguayan, with Barcelona apparently interested in luring him from Anfield to the Camp Nou, that Summer.

Suarez assumed he'd blown his opportunity to team up wiith Lionel Messi and Neymar but, as he recently told El Periodico, that wasn't the case, and it proved to be an emotional revelation for the former Liverpool man.

"I remember during that time, I spoke with Andoni [Zubizarreta] and I spent most of the time crying because I couldn't believe they still liked me and wanted me. It gave me great determination to get back.

"Sometimes I look at photos and videos of those days. I was locked up in a 10x10 mini-gym with Juanjo [Brau] looking for places to go running without the press discovering me.

"My kids would ask me why I wasn't with the team and I'd tell them, without lying. It was a very hard time."

Suarez eventually sealed a £65m move to Barcelona and, despite missing the first two months of the season, still managed to score 25 goals in 43 games en route to helping Luis Enrique's team win a historic second treble, with the Uruguayan scoring in the Champions League final against Juventus, to boot.
