STAR: David Beckham’s King Arthur movie is set to be a flop

The former England captain’s director pal Guy Ritchie fears his film is on course to be slayed at the US box office.

It is being rocked by poor reviews with smash-hit rival blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 dominating the box office.

Early projections for the vital American market indicate that King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword will make less than £20m when the film cost £175m to make.

LEGEND: His presence has failed to put bums on seats in cinemas

When global audiences are taken into account, film studios could be looking at a loss of up to £140m.

Even the high-profile gimmick casting of football legend Becks appears unable to save it.

Goldenballs, 42, makes his big screen debut as a grotesque knight just months after he slammed the government for not giving him a real-life knighthood.

But his presence has failed to put bums on seats in cinemas.

Despite fans calling Becks’ acting “cringeworthy”, the director praised his mate’s minor role.

The pair live near each other in London and are pals off-screen, just like teen sons Rocco Ritchie, 16, and Brooklyn Beckham, 18.

Guy said: “He was fantastic, I love old Becksy. He is a fabulous actor and a pleasure to be with.”

But critics have dubbed the movie “jumbled” and “boring”.

One damning review read: “The target audience for this film appears to be people who wish Game Of Thrones was less complicated and didn’t have any sex or nudity.”

And a Hollywood insider added: “King Arthur has barely even been talked about on TV in the USA.”

It is a major blow for Madonna’s ex-husband Guy, 48, who has had an up-and-down career.

The Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels director’s next project will be a new live-action version of Disney hit Aladdin.
