Sergio Aguero faces uncertain future at Manchester City

Having scored 11 goals in 10 appearances so far this season, it would be fair to assume that Sergio Aguero has started off life under new Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola pretty well.

Or, so you would think.

According to a report today from the Mirror, citing sources within the Citizens' camp, Aguero is actually one of the big name stars at City who's future at the Etihad is far from assured.

Despite his imperious form, the 28-year-old started Wednesday night's UEFA Champions League fixture against Barcelona on the bench in a move that raised more than a few eyebrows amongst fans and the media alike.

Guardiola explained that decision as a tactical one to allow for a more compact midfield and, whilst Aguero can expect to be back in the starting XI for City's Premier League encounter against Southampton this weekend, the Mirror's report suggests his long-term future is far more uncertain.

The paper claims that there is some tension between star striker and manager - potentially stemming from Guardiola's strict demands on his players - and Aguero could actually be moved on at the end of the current campaign.

Indeed, the Mirror's report reads:

"While the manager insisted Aguero accepted his demotion to the bench with good grace, some at the club are convinced the 28-year-old, signed from Atletico Madrid for ï¿¡38million in 2011, will be on his way at the end of the season."

Adding to the idea that there are underlying issues, they also cite the fact that, although Aguero is believed to have agreed a one-year extension on his current contract, City are yet to publicly confirm any such deal.

When you consider Guardiola's apparent interest in the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Antoine Griezmann, not to mention the impending arrival of Gabriel Jesus in January, Aguero's role as leading man for City appears to be under serious threat.

The Argentinian might not be the only big name to leave come the summer, either. According to the same report, Vincent Kompany is moving closer to the City exit door as concerns over his fitness continue.
