Jose Mourinho has insisted that he expects Bastian Schweinsteiger to stay at Manchester United beyond the winter transfer window.
The German midfielder's situation at Old Trafford has inevitably been a source of speculation in recent weeks due to his lack of playing time this season.
The World Cup winner has been forced to sit on the sidelines for most of Manchester United's games so far this season.
The veteran midfielder was yet to make a Premier League appearances for United heading into Wednesday night's clash with Crystal Palace.
However, the 32-year-old recently returned to training with the first team and Mourinho has insisted that he expects Schweinsteiger to stay at the club beyond the January window.
Asked whether he expects Schweinsteiger to still be at the club in February, Mourinho told MUTV: "I do."
He continued: "Our number of players is not so big, even Schweinsteiger is back to the group with exactly that intention, he's one more option for us.
"Unless the player knocks on our door with a future he wants to grab with both hands, then I never stop players doing what they want – if, I repeat, the conditions for the club are the right conditions."
Manchester United are looking to break back into the top four this season after they finished fifth and won the FA Cup last term.
