Ander Herrera has taken to Instagram to reflect on his first Spain call-up.

The Manchester United midfielder was included in the Spain line-up after Bayern Munich star Javi Martinez pulled out of La Roja's squad ahead of their upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

United manager Jose Mourinho has turned to Herrera to reignite his stagnating midfield in recent weeks as world-record signing Paul Pogba continues to struggle in the Red Devils line-up.

Herrera is still uncapped at international level despite his reported £29m move to United from La Liga side Athletic Bilbao in 2014 under Mourinho's predecessor Louis van Gaal.

The 28-year-old will be hoping to get some game time when the 2010 World Cup winners face Albania and Italy over the next week or so.

And Herrera posted the above on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:

"Long time dreaming with it, I am very proud to be able to represent my country, thanks to everyone for the kind messages 👍🏼"

Herrera has made five appearances in the Premier League so far this season under new manager Mourinho.

United drew 1-1 with Stoke City at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as the Red Devils dropped points.
