Ayr Utd. 0 - 2 Raith Rovers: Raith curb Ayr United optimism with victory

Posted Sunday, August 07, 2016 by PA

Raith Rovers quickly quashed Ayr United's promotion enthusiasm with a comfortable 2-0 Ladbrokes Championship win at Somerset Park.

Ross Callachan made the key breakthrough after 19 minutes when he firmly headed home a pinpoint Bobby Barr long ball, delivered from his own half.

The Honest Men battled gamely as they tried to mark their accession to Championship action with a positive result. Paddy Boyle, Alan Forrest and Daryll Meggatt all gave Kevin Cuthbert cause for concern in the Raith goal.

But Ross Matthews finally made the game safe for Gary Locke's men 15 minutes from time, placing past Greg Fleming from the centre of the area.
