Celtic to seal signing of Man City and Chelsea flop: Brendan Rodgers gets his man
Scott Sinclair looks set to sign for Celtic

The Hoops have been chasing Sinclair all summer, and it’s understood a £4million bid was accepted yesterday to seal the deal for the Aston Villa attacker before Monday’s Champions League signing deadline.

The 27-year-old is due in Glasgow today for a medical.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in another new recruit ahead of their play-off clash with Israeli champions Hapoel Be’er Sheva, with the first leg at Parkhead on Wednesday, August 17.

Celtic made their first move for Sinclair, who played under Rodgers at Swansea, six weeks ago and, after having a series of offers declined, stepped up their pursuit after Villa landed Scotland cap Ross McCormack.

Sinclair will become Rodgers third signing following the arrival of Moussa Dembele and Kolo Toure.

He said: “Scott is a player I know very well. We would hope to close something out at the weekend.”

Rodgers hopes the fact the Israelis have still to start their domestic campaign will benefit the Hoops.

He said: “It’s a tough game but I was expecting tough games right the way through. This won’t be any different. What can maybe help us a little bit is that they are not in their season.

"Being at home with the fanatical support, we can really have a good go in that match and tee it up for the second game.”

Rodgers confirmed that Patrick Roberts faces a three-week lay-off with a hamstring strain.

Meanwhile, Charlie Mulgrew was back at Lennoxtown yesterday. However, Rodgers claims there are no moves to re-sign the defender and they are giving him training facilities to build up his fitness.
