Jose Mourinho remains interested in Nemanja Matic

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants to sign Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic this summer if he fails to bring France international Paul Pogba to the club.

This has been reported by The Sun, who claim that Italian giants Juventus are also in the race to sign Matic.

Indeed, the report suggests that the Serie A outfit aren't prepared to sell Pogba to United and also lose out to them in the race to sign Matic.

NEXT UNITED SIGNING

Ultimately, though, Pogba is a level above him and it's not exactly surprising that the Juventus man appears to be Mourinho's priority transfer target.

Pogba, who departed United in favour of a switch to Juventus on a free transfer back in 2012, has gone from strength-to-strength and would prove a major coup for Mourinho and co.

United have struggled in the midfield department for far too long - Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger failed to produce the goods on a consistent basis after signing for the club last summer - so it's now up to the club's hierarchy to get the deal over the line.

The club have certainly enjoyed a prominent period in the transfer window so far. After signing Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly, the club also secured the services of enigmatic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer.

LATEST TRANSFER

And today the club have completed a deal to sign Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund.

United boss Mourinho has already insisted that the club's latest signing will make 'an impact on the team' straight away.

Mourinho said, as per the club's official site: "Henrikh is a very talented footballer who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country. He is a real team player with great skill, vision and also has a good eye for goal. I am delighted he has chosen to sign for United.

"I believe he will make an impact on the team very quickly as his style of play is suited to the Premier League. We are all looking forward to working with him."
