The Sun claimed City had beaten off stiff competition to seal a £40m swoop for Sane.
The 20-year-old has reportedly been the subject of interest from a host of top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Manchester United have also been linked, while Chelsea reportedly sent scouts to check on the Germany international.
But there has apparently been no progress regarding Sane’s future.
That is according to Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel, who told Bild: "The story is incorrect, nothing has changed with Leroy Sane.”
Sane made 42 appearances across all competitions in the season just gone, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in the process.
And according to The Sun, City have been working on a deal for the highly-rated youngster since the start of the year.
The winger could become the second signing of Pep Guardiola’s reign at the Etihad after Ilkay Gundogan completed his summer switch from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.
The Spaniard does however look to have missed out on defensive target Aymeric Laporte, who put pen-to-paper on a fresh deal with Athletic Bilbao on Monday.
