Although the French side still "regret" their Champions League exit to Barcelona, the midfielder was happy to revel in a unique campaign
Blaise Matuidi revealed his pride at being a member of the Paris Saint-Germain squad that became the first French club to win the country’s domestic treble.
With the Ligue 1 title and Coupe de la Ligue crown already secured, les Parisiens completed a clean sweep with a 1-0 success over Ligue 2 outfit Auxerre in the Coupe de France on Saturday.
Edinson Cavani headed the only goal of the game and, despite failing to dismiss their second-tier opponents in the manner that had been forecast prior to kick off, France international Matuidi was nonetheless in jubilant mood.
"This is something exceptional and we will go down in history, even if we have some regrets in the Champions League," the midfielder told France 2 after the game, referring to his side’s quarter-final defeat by Barcelona in Europe.
"But we have been the strongest on the national stage and we are proud of that. We are additionally pleased because it can’t be like this every year.
"We had a great season but we must also pay tribute to Auxerre."
PSG’s win means that Bordeaux will play in the Europa League next season, while Marseille qualify directly for the group stage of the same competition.
