With his verbal outburst at the Nou Camp last night, Thomas Muller showed that the Bayern camp perhaps isn’t quite the happy family it’s often presented as.
The World Cup winner reacted badly when his number appeared on the electronic board in the 79th minute; having been one of Bayern’s better players on the night, his confusion was perhaps justified.
Barcelona had just scored their first goal a the time of the substitution, and no sooner had Gotze come in for Muller than Messi had scored his second to give Barcelona a 2-0 lead.
Muller publicly rebuked his manager Guardiola after being subbed off, and was pictured gesticulating wildly at him, clearly looking for answers as to why it was him who was substituted.
Guardiola didn’t provide him with an answer, and instead tried to shrug off Muller’s complaints as natural frustration, before turning back around to the game.
The German media have been busy lipreading what Muller actually said, and accorinding to Bild, it went something like this:
'Kann diese Scheisse aufhoren?'
- 'Can this shit end?'
The ‘shit’, one would have to speculate, was in relation to Bayern’s overly defensive tactics.
