Fortuna Dusseldorf supporters lined the Rhine with 120 flares to mark their 120-year anniversary.
Fortuna Dusseldorf supporters took a novel approach to marking the club’s 120-year anniversary, deciding to set the Rhine “on fire”.
Supporters lined the river and, realising that 120 candles would not fit on a birthday cake, lit 120 red flares, lighting up the banks of the Rhine and creating quite a spectacle.
Pyrotechnics aside, Fortuna Dusseldorf’s finest moment came in the 1979 European Cup Winners’ Cup final, when they lost a thrilling contest 4-3 in extra time. They are seventh in the Bundesliga.
