The Belgium misfit had a horror debut season at Old Trafford and looked set to follow former boss David Moyes out the exit door.

But Fellaini, 26, has not given up on his United career and believes he can prove his doubters wrong.

The midfielder came off the bench for Belgium to score an equaliser and help inspire a 2-1 comeback win against Algeria on Tuesday.

And he insists he is not just at the World Cup to put himself in the shop window.

He said: "I don't play here for a transfer. We'll see with the new coach, but I still feel good at United."

New United boss Louis van Gaal has yet to make up his mind on Fellaini's future.

The former Everton man arrived at Old Trafford on last summer's deadline day in a £27m deal.

Fellaini's displays in a United shirt also had fans grumbling as he failed to live up to his price tag.

The big-haired midfielder failed to score and was booed by supporters more than once.

Van Gaal will take two weeks to cast his eye over the United squad when he arrives in Manchester after his World Cup duties with Holland.

The Dutchman will then make a decision on whether to give Fellaini another season or to tell the club cut their losses and sell him.

United cannot expect to get any more than £15m for the player despite paying nearly twice that 12 months ago.

Fellaini will be hoping to get another chance at Old Trafford and knows he would have to take a pay cut on his £90,000-a-week earnings if the club sells him.
