World Cup Watch: The Galacticos

Juan Sebastian Veron
Something of a blast from the past, with the former Manchester United and Chelsea man involved for Argentina. He's not guaranteed a place on the plane to South Africa, but indications are that Maradona will take the veteran midfielder along for the ride. His inclusion here among the world's most expensive players seems strange. But United paid a then British transfer record £28m for his services back in 2001, which is why he makes the list. He was a flop at Old Trafford, while his time at Chelsea wasn't much better as he was farmed out on loan for most of the time. South Africa represents the chance of one last hurrah for the 35-year-old.
