Dack injury blow for Blackburn

Blackburn will be without top scorer Bradley Dack when they host Birmingham on Boxing Day.

The midfielder suffered a serious-looking injury during Monday night’s goalless draw with Wigan. In what seemed an innocuous incident, Dack fell to the ground clutching his knee in agony after attempting to keep the ball in play, before being carried off on a stretcher.

The club are awaiting scan results to determine the exact nature of the problem but Rovers boss Tony Mowbray admitted after the game against the Latics that it “doesn’t look good.”

Lewis Holtby is the most likely replacement for Dack, although Bradley Johnson is also an option.

Dan Crowley is available for Birmingham’s trip to Ewood Park.

The midfielder resumed training last week having sustained a hamstring issue in the game at Reading earlier in December.

Blues defenders Marc Roberts (ankle) and Jake Clarke-Salter (shoulder) are continuing their recoveries and will not play again until 2020.

Maikel Kieftenbeld remains on the comeback trail after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in April.
