Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce could have Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron available for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.
Midfielder Shelvey (calf) and striker Almiron (hamstring) missed last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Burnley, but have returned to training and are back in contention.
However, defenders Ciaran Clark (calf) and Jamaal Lascelles (fractured tibia), midfielders Matt Ritchie (ankle) and Ki Sung-yueng (illness) and striker Allan Saint-Maximin (hamstring) are still out.
Crystal Palace’s injury problems show no signs of easing, with Scott Dann added to the list after he picked up a calf problem in training on Friday.
Joel Ward (knee), Gary Cahill (knee), Jeffrey Schlupp (muscle) and Andros Townsend sat out Monday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton and makeshift left-back Jairo Riedewald was then forced off with a hip injury.
Mamadou Sakho missed the derby clash due to suspension and will serve the final match of his three-game ban but Patrick Van Aanholt (hamstring) could return.
Newcastle provisional squad: Dubravka, Darlow, Elliot, Manquillo, Krafth, Willems, Dummett, Fernandez, Schar, Lejeune, Shelvey, Hayden, S. Longstaff, M. Longstaff, Atsu, Almiron, Joelinton, Carroll, Gayle, Muto.
Crystal Palace provisional squad: Guaita, Hennessey, Henderson, Woods, Tomkins, Kelly, Van Aaanholt, Mitchell, Milivojevic, Kouyate, McArthur, McCarthy, Camarasa, Zaha, Ayew, Benteke, Wickham.
