Marcelo Hilariously Buys Gareth Bale A Golf Club For Christmas After Flag Controversy

Gareth Bale has received a golf club for Christmas from Real Madrid teammate Marcelo in wake of the 'Wales, Golf, Madrid' flag saga.

The Madrid squad were out for their Christmas party on Wednesday evening and exchanged gifts for secret Santa.

Marcelo led by example and cheekily gifted the Wales winger a golf club, following the scrutiny he's recently faced for his love of the sport.

The gift reportedly went down a storm at the party and had the entire squad laughing.

Other gifts handed out included some lifting weights for Lucas Vasquez who dropped some on his foot the other week, a baby walker for Marco Asensio, a Spanish dictionary for Luka Jovic, toys for young pair Brahim Diaz and Vinicius Júnior not to mention a brick given to Ferland Mendy.

Bale, meanwhile, has had a fractious relationship with the club's fans since his arrival for a then world record £86 million fee in 2013.

He has been dubbed 'the golfer' by his teammates and has been criticised for his lack of involvement with the rest of the squad.

As a result, his parading with the infamous flag after Wales sealed Euro 2020 qualification was met with a huge reaction.

In his two appearances for the Spanish side since the controversy he has been booed heavily by his own fans.

But he recently told BT Sport per ESPN that he no longer lets the boos bother him.

"I think the first time it happened, it was a bit of a shock."

The former Spurs man went on to say he was unsure how to deal with the boos earlier in his career but nowadays he's much more wary.

"I didn't really know how to deal with it. But as I've got older, it's happened one or two times and you understand how to deal with it. Now I just shrug it off.

"Obviously I have to just keep working hard and keep proving to the fans what I can do. Eventually the whistles do stop and you get on with your career like normal."
