John Aldridge claims Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is better than M ancestor City’s Pep Guardiola.
Liverpool legend John Aldridge is adamant that Jurgen Klopp is superior to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola because of his recent track record.
Klopp and Guardiola are considered as the two best managers in the Premier League but Aldridge believes the Reds manager is better than the City coach.
The former Republic of Ireland international is very impressed with the work the German boss has put together at Anfield ever since his arrival in 2015 and is particularly amazed with this season’s progress even though he made no notable signings and lost his starting goalkeeper Alisson to a calf injury for two months.
Liverpool have won all of their first eight matches in the Premier League and are sitting comfortably in first place with eight points ahead of title rivals City.
Aldridge considers Klopp as the best manager in Europe because he has been in three European cup finals in the last four years whereas Guardiola has only managed one Champions League semi-final finish during that period, and that wasn’t with City.
The legendary striker added that the former Borussia Dortmund boss built this team out of nothing with a much smaller transfer kitty compared to his Spanish rival.
Aldridge told Goal: “I get asked this a lot.
“The fact that it’s even a question tells you just what this team has achieved, I guess.
“Jurgen has done brilliantly.
“He’s dealt with all those problems in pre-season, he’s lost his first-choice goalkeeper for two months, and we are top of the league by a good distance.
“It’s ridiculous, just outstanding management.
“Europe-wise, he’s the best in the business, for me.
“He’s had what, three European finals on the bounce?
“Pep Guardiola has not even had a semi-final in that period, let alone a final.
“Guardiola is a great coach, but he was very fortunate in the fact that he walked into a Monopoly game where he could spend what he wants and bring the players in willy-nilly.
“Klopp has had to do it the harder way.
“He’s spent money, but far less than City and on far fewer players too.”
