Barrow goalkeeper Joel Dixon saved Connor Shields’ stoppage-time penalty to secure his side a 2-1 win against fellow strugglers Aldershot.

Alefe Santos was brought down in the box but Dixon dived to his right to keep out Shields’ effort and move his side out the National League relegation zone.

John Rooney’s deflected free-kick found the corner to give Barrow the lead just before the break.

Josh Kay doubled the lead in the 69th minute after a cross deflected past the goalkeeper and presented the midfielder with an open goal.

Ethan Chislett pulled one back with 10 minutes left after a slip up in the Barrow defence, but Dixon’s heroics denied the hosts a late leveller.
