Two goals and a sending off within the first 45 minutes helped Ipswich retain top spot in Sky Bet League One following a 3-0 victory over 10-man Shrewsbury for their third-successive win.
Kayden Jackson opened the scoring in the second minute before a James Norwood penalty (10) and Flynn Downes (69) netted to complete the scoring.
The vistors lost midfielder Shaun Whalley seven minutes before the break as he was given his marching orders.
Jackson beat Shrewsbury goalkeeper Max O’Leary with a firm strike inside the penalty area following build up involving Danny Rowe and Norwood to fire the hosts into an early lead.
A jinking run by Ipswich full-back Kane Vincent-Young saw him fouled by Josh Laurent in the penalty area with the resulting spot-kick converted by Norwood.
A free-kick taken by Sean Goss led to Shrewsbury defender Ethan Ebanks-Landell hitting the post from close range and – seven minutes before the break – Whalley was given a second yellow card for a bad foul.
A dazzling move down the right involving Vincent-Young, Gwion Edwards and Jackson led to a cross which was headed home by midfielder Downes to extend the home side’s lead and seal the three points and maintain their unbeaten start to the league season.
