Lubala cracker earns Crawley a point at Macclesfield

A stunning strike from Bez Lubala rescued a point for Crawley in a 1-1 draw at Macclesfield.
The two sides – level on points in League Two before kick-off – were evenly matched, with neither able to make a compelling case for deserving the three points.
The first half had been lively enough but chances were few and far between, with Theo Archibald’s second-minute effort for Macc and Nathan Ferguson’s rising effort on 43 minutes for the visitors bookending the opening period.
In between came the Silkmen’s goal, bundled in by centre-back Theo Vassell after the visitors struggled to clear Connor Kirby’s corner.
Crawley struggled to break down the stout Macc defence in the second half, and had been reduced to pot-shots from distance.
But when they needed a moment of quality, Lubala provided it, sending a 25-yard free-kick beyond goalkeeper Owen Evans and inside the top corner.
Crawley’s Ollie Palmer skewed a close-range chance wide after Evans parried a shot into his path but, perhaps rightly, it ended honours even.
