BRUNO FERNANDES' agent is flying to England on Wednesday night to thrash out a transfer with Manchester United, according to reports.

The Red Devils have made the Sporting midfielder one of their main targets this summer after a stunning campaign for club and country.

Fernandes bagged 32 goals for and grabbed 18 assists last season and was instrumental in helping Portugal lift the inaugural Nations League title.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are yet to agree a fee for the 24-year-old, reports in his homeland claimed they have spoken to him.

Fernandes' agent is expected to fly to the UK on Wednesday night to discuss a deal, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira.

Miguel Pinho, who represents the star, has allegedly made a telephone agreement with United on a contract worth £100,000 a week.

Sporting were hoping to spark a bidding war between Premier League clubs for Fernandes' signature after hiking up their asking price.

However, the plan backfired and their huge demand for Fernandes has driven away both Liverpool and Tottenham.

United are aware of this and will continue to play hardball by refusing to pay over-the-odds for the ex-Sampdoria man.

And they believe their patient approach could result in them bringing him to Old Trafford for a fee similiar to the £31m they originally offered.

United have begun getting their transfer business done as they close in on the return to pre-season training this week.

Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have already arrived and the club are nore trying to press on getting other players in - with Newcastle's Sean Longstaff and Aston Villa's John McGinn potential options.
