Chelsea ace Danny Drinkwater held after 'drink-drive' smash minutes after leaving party with glamorous lawyer he had just met

CHELSEA star Danny Drinkwater was arrested for suspected drink-driving early on Monday morning when he ploughed into a car minutes after leaving a party.

Drinkwater, 29, was with glamorous lawyer Beth Mantel, who he met at the party, when he hit a Skoda.

The crash left debris strewn across the country road in Hale, Gtr Manchester, and a fence was flattened.

The charity event in an upmarket bar called Victors had asked fancy dress partygoers to dress like chavs.

England ace Drinkwater, solicitor Beth Mantel, 33, and Skoda driver Emma Brown, 30, were all treated for minor injuries.

It is thought unmarried dad-of-one Drinkwater and Beth left together at around 12.30am. The smash was six miles from Danny's £1.8million home.

'REALLY NASTY CRASH'

A source said: "It was a really nasty crash. Danny had been seen having a great night at the bar but it ended horribly. Pieces of the car he hit went flying.

"Danny's been partying like mad recently but hopefully this will be a wake up call telling him to slow down."

Cheshire Police said: "A 29-year-old man from Nether Alderley was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He is currently in custody assisting officers with their inquiries."

Beth, of Wilmslow, Cheshire, specialises in criminal law.

The crash came just hours before Chelsea's Premier League match with West Ham.

On Friday Drinkwater was seen leaving a VIP London nightclub at 1:40am with two women, a blonde and a brunette.

A few hours later he was sweating it out at training.

THE £35MILLION FLOP

The Sun on Sunday told in January how Drinkwater was using dating app Bumble to look for romance — using a picture that showed off his toned torso.

Drinkwater has been frozen out of the Chelsea side this season by Italian manager Maurizio Sarri.

The midfielder, who was signed by Chelsea for £35million after he won the Premier League with Leicester in 2016, has not played a competitive game for 13 months.

Beth declined to comment yesterday.
